April 29, 2026Don’t Drink and Drive PSA
Monday, April 29th, 2019
You will research statistical results and/or facts on drinking and driving and develop a PSA to encourage young adults to abstain from driving under the influence. You will need to cite your sources on a separate page. You must choose 3 different statistics (such as 124 deaths occurred due to alcohol impairment, 18 of which were drivers under the age of 21) and produce 3 thumbnail sketches for each statement for a total of 9 sketches (these can be any size you want, but should be very simple). Your ideas should try to reflect on the danger and sadness that driving under the influence can cause.
You will choose the best design from each statement and produce a rough draft in the program of your choice (e.g., Photoshop, InDesign). You can choose the size you want: 8.5” X 11” or 11” X 17” (either portrait or landscape). Any images used must be your own or from a stock photography site. You will also need to cite your photography sources with your fact citations. These designs are meant to reach students and faculty on an emotional level. Try to get them to connect with the content so they feel compelled to do the right thing when temptation arises.
Midway through the assignment, there will be a group critique of all the rough drafts. You will then decide either the class favorite or your favorite (should they be different) design, and only finalize the best piece. There will be a final group critique where we discuss which aspects work well and which could use a bit more tweaking. You will be given one class to make any last-minute adjustments, and then we will post the designs throughout the school. (The principal is quite interested in our project, so these will be going up in the halls!!)
